Call for papers for Aachen conference
The 9th IFK - International Fluid Power Conference Aachen has issued its call for papers for its event to be held March 24-26, 2014. The deadline for submission is May 13, with acceptance notification by July 3.
Deadline is near for IFPE abstracts
IFPE 2014 has issued a second call for abstracts to fluid power professionals to present their research and applications work at the IFPE Technical Conference and the IFPE Innovations Theater March 4-8, 2014 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Hydraulic starters
HS-22 and HS-36 hydraulic starters use friction clutch inertia drives and can be supplied with or without motors. They come in four models, each with a different displacement: HS-222 is 1 in.3 (16.4 cc); HS-223 is 2 in.3 (32.8 cc); HS-224 is 3 in.3 (49.2 cc); HS-360 is 5.15 in.3 (84.3 cc)
Crimp connection
Mechanical Crimp Connection is a one-piece adaptor that eliminates welding. When crimped, a proprietary bite ring attaches to the pipe and secures the adapter. Internal seals ensure a leak-free connection and protect against ingression. It achieves NPS pipe connections in weld sizes ranging from 1 to 2 in. and has a working pressure to 5000 psi.
Hydraulic, pneumatic shipments down
The National Fluid Power Association's (NFPA) most recent published data indicatees that shipments of fluid power products for February 2013 decreased 11.8 percent compared to February 2012, and decreased 3.5 percent compared to January.
Make waves at OTC
The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) 2013 will be held May 6-9 at Reliant Park, Houston. Perhaps the largest and most important event for the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production, and environmental protection, OTC attracts more than 80,000 attendees from more than 110 countries and 2500 exhibiting companies, including a large number of fluid power component, system and service providers.
Solenoid troubleshooting checklist
When a solenoid is first energized, its coil receives a pulse of high inrush current that decreases as the plunger closes. If the plunger does not close, the high inrush current continues, which can cause the coil to overheat and burn out. This is the most common cause of solenoid failure and spotting it is easy.
Streamlined design clears up muddied waters
Underwater drilling requires a simple, powerful system for tunneling through and removing sand and mud. This is why MudPuppy International, Apple Valley, Calif., uses Eaton products supplied by Spencer Fluid Power of Ontario, Calif., to provide the hydraulics muscle for its Sand Guzzler submersible, hydraulic-driven, pick-up pump and MudPuppy mud systems. These auxiliary drilling machines work in tandem.
