Rebuilding Cat machines simplified with cylinder honing

Rebuilding heavy equipment makes good economic sense, particularly for the hydraulic components on construction and earth moving machinery. In fact, the trend since 2008 has been strong enough to support the addition of a machine shop as part of the existing hydraulics shop at Caterpillar dealer Whayne Supply. Key among the shop's equipment is a Sunnen HTA tube hone, which allows Whayne to resurface scratched and rusted cylinder barrels, saving customers 80 percent or more over the cost of a new barrel.

Control system integrators says industry outlook is good

A recent global survey of independent system integration companies offers a positive outlook for business this year, with the majority of respondents saying they believe the outlook for the automation industry will improve in 2013.

2013 Manufacturers' Index
The following is a list of all manufacturers who provide product information and specifications in our Designer's Guide. Advertisers in our January 2013 issue are in bold. Click here for a complete list of all Designer's Guide charts, which are a collection of specifications for a variety of popular categories of fluid power products and services. Several hundred companies are represented. Charts and index listings were prepared from information supplied by those companies directly to the editors of Hydraulics & Pneumatics.
Apps help size hydraulic components
The Hydraulic Calculator from Zanthic Innovations is a useful tool for anyone who designs or works with hydraulic circuits. This application provides quick and easy calculations for hydraulic components. Detailed calculations can be done for cylinders, pumps, motors, line velocities, line pressure losses and orifice pressure drops.
Vacuum ejectors
EKPP, EKP, and EMM series ejectors conserve energy without compromising cycle times. Featuring automatic pressure regulation, they reduce compressed air usage by up to 50% per work piece, regardless of its porosity. EMA and EKP-LSE series achieve savings of up to 97% for airtight work pieces.
High-flow pneumatic filters
The 201-9202 series of high-flow filters from Monnier are available in particulate (3 µm element) or coalescing (0.01 µm) styles. They come with 3-in. NPT ports and NPT, BSPT and BSPP threads and are rated for flows of 1200 scfm at 100 psig with a 1.0 psig ∆P. Housing is heavy-duty cast aluminum.
Solenoid valve 1
Series 7 direct-acting, solenoid valve is designed with a coil that accommodates fluid pressures to 1200 psi in a 2-way NC configuration. It is available in 2- and 3-way operation, features 13⁄16 and 15⁄8-in. body sizes machined from aluminum or brass with 1⁄8 or 1⁄4 in. NPT ports, orifice sizes from 3⁄64 to 1⁄4 in. and draws 11, 12 or 14 W of power from either ac or dc power.
Vacuum-cup check valve

The piSave sense flow control/check valve for vacuum cups is used for object sensing on flexible handling devices using a centralized vacuum pump. It works in any orientation, even upside down. It is dirt tolerant and increases vacuum flow through the valve when vacuum level decreases, therefore retaining high lifting force in cups that are in contact with product. Valve allows several vacuum cups to miss (or partly miss) sheets/objects and still maintain system vacuum level and offer a fast-release or blowoff.

Hydraulic cylinders
Custom hydraulic cylinders are rated for pressures to 5000 psi, for reach and tilt applications on forklifts and other heavy equipment. Designs can be cushioned or non-cushioned, both as single and double-acting.
Electronic valves

Analytical series electronic valves are available in 2- or 3-way, normally-closed or fully ported designs. “A-E” pneumatic valves consume only 0.67 W of power from 6-, 12-, or 24-Vdc source, with a response time of 5 to 10 msec. Special materials, manufacturing, and assembly processes make this valve suitable for applications where internal cleanliness, bubble-tight

Hall-effect joystick 1

PRO-6H joystick has the long life cycle of a non-contacting Hall-effect proportional output device in a sturdy mechanical design. Single-axis joystick is highly resistant to EMI and has standard proportional 0.5- to 4.5-Vdc output with optional custom-engineered PWM circuits. Its 10-mm handle shaft fits a variety of handle configurations, including triggers, rocker switches, pushbuttons and thumb wheels.

New filtration company focuses on oil reclamation

Long-time filtration expert Ivan Sheffield has opened a new business, Western Technical Filter (WTF), in La Vergne, Tenn. The company plans to distribute and manufacture high performance filter elements for the industrial hydraulic and industrial lubrication market.

Reversing fan drives, directional control valves for efficient speed control 1

In support of the growing trend towards using hydraulic fan drive systems, Comatrol, a member of the SauerDanfoss Group, released two new product lines at Bauma China — RFDE reversing fan drive HICs and directional control valves. Comatrol said the new product lines are a continuation of its focus on high flow directional controls in 2012, and its continued investments in fan drive solutions for efficiently controlling the speed and reversing functions of hydraulic fan systems.
