Hydraulic fluids that improve fuel efficiency

Improving energy efficiency is a mandate by many if not most equipment and machinery manufacturers today. One way that efficiency can be increases is with the proper selection of hydraulic fluid.

This topic is covered in a very thoughtful way in the September 23rd issue of Machine Design in an article edited by our Ken Korane. Seven Herzog of Evonik RohMax USA is the author of the article.

Even though straight-grade engine oils have not been approved for passenger cars, they are very effectively used as hydraulic fluids in many fluid power applications. This article goes into detail about the effects of viscosity on fuel economy. Check it out by going to the digital issue of Machine Design.
