On page 20 of the March issue of Hydraulics & Pneumatics appears an article titled Mobile Cylinders Get Smart. It reviews the contributions made by magnetostrictive sensors to the operation of mobile off-highway equipment.
In the past, magnetostrictive technology was used mostly on industrial machinery because the size and cost of them were prohibitive for off-highway equipment. But because of incremental innovations by some of the leading companies in the business, the size and the cost have been reduced over the years to allow their usage on mobile equipment.
Now, because of this technological advancement, operators of heavy equipment have much better control of their machines because of the sensors. These changes happened gradually and opened new marktets for the providers of these products. For more information, check out our March issue.
