The world looks different. GM, one of the largest corporations in the world, is now in bankruptcy as is Chrysler. It seems like that game has been changing for a long time as our need for and desire for GM cars has declined.
There is still a place for GM but the requirement for GM cars might just be smaller than in past years. That means that GM will change their part in the game and produce more quality cars and level out at a reasonable market share. Chrysler and Ford need to do the same.
There are probably too many houses on the market in many regions also. There are too many unsecured loans. The game has changed and things look different. What do we do then? Wait for things to get better.

Perhaps, our economy is becoming more global. Why else would most of the world be in recession? Our economies are certainly dependent on other economies.
