One of the neat things that I got to see up close at the USA Science & Engineering Festival was an example of robotic soccor. There were several small, homemade-looking devices kicking a soccer ball around in several enclosed mini soccer fields.
This activity was very engaging for many young people and very educational for all. In addition to this there was a very large display by FIRST which is a high school level robotics program that teaches the use of fluid power among other engineeringt technologies.
We at H&P magazine are very familiar with the FIRST program as it has been strongly promoted by the NFPA.
We support the teaching of fluid power technology at all levels including high school and we strongly support fluid power curriculums in colleges. There were just too many exhibits to see in one day but my overall impression of the event that it was very successful in gettin people interested in science and engineering.

In order for our country to compete in these fields, we must continue to interest and encourage young people in fields of technology. Making a contribution to our future as an industrialized nation is a noble ambition.
