Safety Can Be Intrinsic in Fluid Power

The September issue of Hydraulics & Pneumatics explains how the very usage of fluid power systems adds to safety in the oil and gas industry. This is especially timely because of the recent disaster in the Gulf.

On page 10 of our September issue, Editor Alan Hitchcox explains how companies can remotely monitor actuator movement to add to the safety factor in an offshore rig. Through the use of position feedback transducers, this monitoring is made possible. This particular application story is provided by Rota Engineering who supplies the transducers.

In another non-related article in September, Noshok describes their corrosion-resistant zinc nickel plated valves that enable operation in very corrosive environments. Both of these articles describe how subtle advances in fluid power offer designers options ways to make their machinery and equipment more safe and reliable.
