Bosch Rexroth has recently released a new variable displacement axial piston pump, dubbed the A1VO. This goes alongside the other googol of pumps Rexroth makes, but when I saw a press release for this one, it caught my eye.

It’s a pressure compensated variable pump, but as you’ve probably noticed, the compensators are nowhere to be found! No degree of inspection will allow you to locate a compensator valve on the outside of the pump because they’re inside the pump. Genius!
The compensator is a fixed pressure unit, and there is also an optional load sense compensator. It has optional electro-proportional control over pressure, which is also inside the pump! Exclamation marks galore! Only a two pin Deutsch connector is required in the side of the pump.
As you can see, it’s exceptionally streamlined, looking like a hydraulic pump you might find on the Starship Enterprise. Rexroth has a tonne of variable pumps in their catalogue, but this is the most unique new product I’ve seen in a while. Kudos!
