I have many reflections and thoughts following a visit to Hannover Messe 2013 regarding the state of the fluid power industry. First and biggest is the realization that fluid power is a huge global industry. There are many global companies, regional companies, national companies, and area companies involved in the fluid power industry. They come from many countries and come in many sizes.
What is a global fluid power company? Well, for sure there is a global category that includes Parker Hannifin, Bosch Rexroth, and Eaton. That is a given because they have sales and manufacturing around the world. There is another level of companies that have global coverage as well, too many to mention. These are US companies with manufacturing elsewhere in the world and wide distribution to many nations.
Then there are companies that manufacture in the USA and sell globally, and I would consider them global if they have a regular global sales and distribution network established. And then there are companes with that will sell globally but are not necessarily global companies. The overall system and network of fluid power manufacturing and distribution is very complicated.
Another reflection is that fluid power is alive and well in this world with German and Italian fluid power manufacturers having a strong presence at Hannover Messe 2013. I knew there were many European fluid power manufacturers, but I now understand the scope of their presence. I also realize that there are many companies from Turkey, China, Taiwan, and other European nations trying to gain market share.
Aside from the global and national swings in industrial economies, fluid power is strong. The innovation and development of new products continues. The pushing of technology to meet the demands of today's manufacturing needs continues. Fluid Power is alive and well and that was evident at Hannover Messe 2013.
