Raymond F. Hanley passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the age of 89. He was born February 10, 1926 in Altoona , Pa and died at the Earl Hadlow Community Hospice Center in Jacksonville, Fla.
Hanley was a depression-era child born in Altoona, Pa. He entered the Navy in 1943 and was assigned to the USS McGinty, a destroyer escort in the South Pacific. Ray’s duties on the ship included ship’s photographer, mailman, and helmsman. His primary duty on the ship was anti-submarine warfare, which included operation of a 50-caliber machine gun....More
