Webtec RFIK270 Hydraulic Tester Provides Increased Flow Capacity

Jan. 9, 2024
The RFIK270 features an increased flow capacity of 270 lpm to aid testing of a wide range of hydraulic components.

Webtec now offers the RFIK270 mechanical hydraulic tester with an increased flow capacity of 270 lpm (70 gpm). The tester can be used for measurement of flow, pressure and temperature.

Key features of the hydraulic tester include:

  • modified load valve to reduce pressure drop
  • broad flow range from 20-270 lpm
  • self-contained for ease of use
  • internal safety protection system to protect hydraulic circuit and operators.

Wide Flow Range and Ease of Use Benefit Testing of Various Hydraulic Components

The RFIK270 hydraulic tester includes many of the same features as other testers in Webtec's RFIK series but with increased flow capacity. Similar to other RFIK models, it is comprised of a direct-acting reverse flow indicator (RFI), built-in thermometer and a loading valve with pressure gauge.

It can be calibrated from 20-270 lpm, offering a wide flow range to help engineers serivce or commission various types of hydraulic systems. The tester can be used with a range of hydraulic components including pumps, motors, valves, steering systems, cylinders and complete hydraulic circuits. Reverse flow is possible with the tester but no measurement takes place.

In addition, the RFIK270's modified flow valve significantly reduces pressure drop across the unit. Testing has shown the tester reduces pressure drop by approximately 12 bar (174 psi) at maximum flow (270 l/min), equating to a reduction of around 35%.

The hydraulic tester is a self-contained unit which does not require electrical power or batteries, helping to simplify its use. Instead, it connects to either the pressure or the return lines of the system. Once fitted, the loading valve and pressure gauge allow sensitive, progressive and controlled accumulation of system pressure across the working range in complete safety the company explained in its press release announcing the launch of the tester.

An internal safety protection system is included as well which protects both the hydraulic circuit and operator against accidental over-pressure in both flow directs, said Webtec. There are also two safety discs which relieve at 420 bar (6,000 psi) without external spillage.

Industry Requires Higher Flow Rate Capabilities

Webtec developed a hydraulic tester with the ability to handle higher flow rates because of evolving industry needs. The company explained that it offers testers from 30-800 lpm and those in the 30-200 lpm range typically utilize its RFIK hydraulic testers due their ease-of-use, entry-level design and their lower cost compared to more advanced options.

However, users of the RFIK testers have begun asking for options with higher flow capabilities because many of the machines on which they are being used, such as agricultural and construction equipment, now feature higher flow rates. This is due in part to the machines themselves getting larger and having more functions. Maximum flow rates are now upward of 200 lpm, necessitating testers which can accommodate them.
