ALT Bearings HRA-i Roller Screw Includes Ultra-High Capacity Bearing for Lightweight Design

Jan. 25, 2024
The HRA-i features the company's HRB ultra-high capacity roller bearing which is integrated into the screw nut to provide a compact and lightweight design.

ALT Bearings (Advanced Linear Technologies) has developed the HRA-i which integrates an inverted roller screw with an ultra-high capacity roller bearing known as the Herringbone Roller Bearing (HRB).

Features of the HRA-i include:

  • reduced weight and improved reliability
  • need for flange and locknut eliminated
  • high power density
  • variety of application uses.

Benefits of Integrating an Ultra-High Capacity Roller Bearing

By including the HRB as part of its HRA-i roller screw design, ALT Bearings can provide customers with a range of benefits.

Among them are the weight reductions offered by the roller screw. According to ALT Bearings, the HRB is 80% lighter in weight than conventional bearings, leading to a lighterweight roller screw as well. This can also help to reduce overall machine weight which is becoming a greater area of focus in some applications.

Inclusion of the ultra-high capacity bearing eliminates the need for a flange and locknut to secure the roller screw's location as is typically this case. This is due to the design of the roller screw in which the bearing's inner ring is machined on the screw's nut, creating an integrated solution that provides a compact and lightweight design capable of being used as a direct replacement of other options in the market.

The HRA-i includes many of the characteristics common to ALT Bearings' other roller screw technologies as well, including:

  • long-lasting life in demanding applications
  • high load density and static load capacities
  • variety of material and coating options
  • controlled manufacturing process
  • ability to be used in various applications such as aerospace, oil & gas, construction machinery and more.
