HAWE Introduces Third Generation All-Terrain Robot

Oct. 17, 2023
The third generation of HAWE's ROVO features an all-electric powertrain and mini-hydraulic drives for attachments.

HAWE Hydraulik has introduced the third generation of its ROVO all-terrain robot platform. New application uses are possible with the robot, particularly agriculture where autonomous solutions such as this are needed to help increase productivity for farmers and overcome labor challenges.

ROVO features a high-strength steel mobile chassis measuring 1.20 x 1.20 m and a dead weight of just 300 kg. This compact and lightweight design enables easy transport and use in a variety of applications. The robot is capable of carrying payloads up to 500 kg and traveling at speeds up to 30 km/h, even in rough terrain.

An all-electric powertrain enables zero-emissions operation. Lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 8.8 kWh power the mobile robot — including the powertrain, external control units and sensors. According to HAWE, a unique feature of ROVO is its built-in battery pack which helps to provide a long operating range of 4 continuous hours or 40 km. The battery is interchangeable and has a plug-in system, allowing for easy exchange in under 2 minutes without tool with a new battery to further extend operating time.

There is an external power supply available for ROVO with 12, 24, 48 or 96V.

ROVO can be configured for use in a range of applications such as underground construction or mining, agricultural mowing or spraying operations, transport of materials in special conditions and many others. With this configurability, the robot can be equipped with various attachments powered by integrated mini-hydraulic drives.

Users also have the option to utilize radio remote control with ROVO or external control via the robot's integrated CAN interface.

Development and use of mobile robots like ROVO are increasing to aid productivity in a range of applications. Mobile robots can help complete a range of tasks, some of which larger machines cannot or would otherwise put too much physical strain on humans. This allows human labor to stay safe and focus on other more important work. And with the lack of skilled labor in the agricultural market, along with several other industries, using mobile robots helps ensure all necessary work is still completed.
